I am suddenly having the same problem I assume everyone who posted here has had their problem solved. It is occurring with my iPhone 6 in all areas. It started suddenly and it does NOT happen with voice memos when I listen through the earpiece instead of the speaker. When I'm talking I hear a sound that sounds like knifing or scratching.

But it could also be a static discharge sound. I switched over to an Iphone 6 plus S and still made that sound. I replaced the Sim card and still made that sound.

I erased all my data off the phone and did not download copy anything from icloud or iTunes and still made that sound. It seems I can hear it but the person on the other end can't hear it. My next choice is to switch services to T-Mobile prepaid. Hopefully it will go away. If not I may have to pay the big bucks and go with a non-prepaid service or give up and live with the noises.

As of three days ago whenever I place or receive a call on my IPhone 6 plus there is a very loud static noise that makes it hard for me to understand the caller and for the caller to understand me. I have tried to search troubleshooting help but I haven't found anything.

I can't use my phone to communicate I can only use text.

Loud crackling static sound on iPhone 5 call?

Like Comment Follow Share. This may be due to the ambient audio stream created by the feature. For best results, make the same phone call to something like an automated message so everything sounds the same during the tests. This feature has been around quite a while and is supported by just about every modern iPhone, though technically it requires iPhone be running version 7 of iOS system software or later, and it remains available in all modern iOS versions too.

Let us know in the comments if you think this feature turned off or on provides a meaningful change, one way or the other. Enjoy this tip? Can you make a decent phone that will do its basic functions — to hear and be heard, in line with the device price?

If the phone does not work properly, you may forget hundreds of additional fancy functions, as nothing will replace human conversation. My friends using other brands are making jokes on my account because of changing sound quality. I do remember old good brands from the s — they could be heard well, even if you were on scuba diving.

Fix the sound quality — this is a task for the entire Apple, not to work on doubled or tripled camera — who cares for the camera that will never replace classic large size lenses. BTW, turning off the Bluetooth and noise cancellation fixes the problem just a bit. Got my new IPhone 11 yesterday and no one can hear me when I call, it breaks up and sounds like a robot. Was going to return the phone which is a pain after adding all my apps etc to the new phone.

Calls are now crystal clear! Thank you so much for saving me the headache of returning my phone! Many thanks. I just read the article and comments, and I wanted to know if anyone has noticed a decrease in volume on their in-ear speaker on iPhone 7 Plus?

Oh, I forgot to mention that there has been no water damage or external. I make sure to buy high quality tempered glass screen protectors and cases. Thank you so much… :. Thank you so much — problem solved and no more complaints from my friends when I call them! I have to press the phone so hard to my ear to actually hear the other person. It sounds as if the volume is on halfway. Are you struggling to understand what people are saying on the phone, or they have a hard time hearing you as you talk on your iPhone?

This can happen on just about any iPhone model, but more recently people are sometimes complaining about call sound problems on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 8, and iPhone 7 models, often with the speaker or microphone, and both for outbound calls and inbound calls. There are many different possible reasons why iPhone call quality may sound bad, and this guide will attempt to troubleshoot these type of issues with iPhone call sound and call quality, offering a range of tips and tricks to resolve and fix call audio problems.

Important: Be sure you back up the iPhone to iCloud or iTunes before beginning. This allows you to restore the iPhone to the current state in the event that something goes wrong which might be unlikely, but is always possible with anything in life and particularly with technical stuff. If an iPhone system software update to iOS is available, install that update before going any further. If there is a software bug or known issue, it is likely resolved by a new iOS software update.

First backup the iPhone to iCloud or iTunes, and then do the following:. The iPhone will instal the system software and automatically reboot when finished. Try making a phone call again afterwards, the call issue may be resolved.

This might sound obvious, but if phone calls sound distant and quiet to you, then you will want to make sure iPhone sound volume is turned all the way up. The iPhone actually has several different volume settings that can be independent from one another, so the best way to turn volume up for a phone call is to make a phone call and then press the Volume Up button on the side of the iPhone repeatedly until the volume indicator is all the way full.

Toggling AirPlane mode ON, waiting a few seconds, and then OFF will effectively disconnect and reconnect all communication on the device, including the cellular modem, Bluetooth, and wi-fi. Cycling of the devices communication radios can often remedy call issues, and it may force the iPhone to join a different cellular tower which can resolve some cellular sound quality problems too. Note that AirPlane Mode must be OFF for the iPhone to make or receive any phone call, when it is turned on the device can not communicate with the outside world as the cellular, bluetooth, and wi-fi radios are off.

Often a simple reboot of iPhone will resolve various issues, so give your iPhone a quick restart and see if it helps. You can also force restart the iPhone. How to forcibly restart an iPhone differs per device model:. You may find that resetting network settings in iOS could resolve phone call issues. Note that by resetting device network settings, you will lose all saved wi-fi passwords, wi-fi network preferences, cellular settings, network settings, network customizations like DNS, etc.

Thus you might want to jot down important wi-fi passwords ahead of time, as you will have to enter them all again later. The iPhone will automatically reboot. Remember, you will need to re-join wi-fi networks and re-enter wi-fi passwords, and if you made any other customizations or changes to network settings those will be lost in the network settings reset too. If the iPhone has a poor cellular signal, call quality may suffer.

If the iPhone cellular signal is low 1 bar, sometimes even 2 bars then call quality will almost certainly suffer as well and sometimes calls can break up, crackle, or sound very low quality. Often with poor cellular reception, the iPhone call will drop completely.

You can check the cellular signal of iPhone by looking at the top of the iPhone, and then look for the bars or dots for some iOS versions. Be sure to enable wi-fi calling on iPhone if possible, assuming the iPhone and carrier support the feature. This allows you to use the wi-fi connection rather than only the cellular connection to make a phone call, and this can make a huge difference in call quality.

This is a particularly useful calling feature to use if the iPhone is located in an area with bad cellular reception, or an area where phone calls routinely drop or sound bad. If you use a Bluetooth device, headset, speaker, stereo, car stereo, or other Bluetooth connection for phone calls, you may find that toggling Bluetooth off and on can resolve quality issues.

Sometimes simply turning Bluetooth off, waiting a few seconds, then turning Bluetooth back on again can resolve call quality issues. Sometimes toggling a setting to force iPhone to use LTE for data only can improve call performance. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. I updated iOS from I have got Sony W-C bluetooth headset. I did not have Apple music subscription before upgrading to iOS After upgrading, I took the Apple Music subscription.

I used the same headset on iOS But when I use any other music player or same headset on other phone, no crackling noise is coming. If I use other bluetooth headset on my iOS 12, again no crackling noise. Posted on Sep 20, PM.

I have the same issue with an iPhone 8 going from Playing audio books through iBooks works just fine but playing audio using the Music app causes crackling. Seems to happen most when the volume on the phone is turned up all the way. Have tried this using bluetooth in my car, wireless headphones, and a bluetooth speaker. All have the crackle.

Definitely didn't do this before iOS 12 and doesn't crackle when I use lightning headphone plugged into the phone. Have tried rebooting the phone several times but no change.

I read some people having a similar issue with earlier versions of iOS and they fixed it by disabling Sound Check in Music settings. I didn't have it enabled so I enabled it and a couple days later tried disabling it. Initial tests are a little better but still crackling a decent amount.

So frustrating.

If your iPhone 8 is crackling during calls, there’s a fix on the way

I am having the exact same issue, Replaced the doc connector and now sometimes it will be fine, and sometimes it will still crackle.

If I turn on speaker mode and turn it back off during the phone call it will resolve it temporarily. I have also replaced the actual ear speaker. I have the same problem.

Only mine started right after my iPhone was left sitting out during a dust storm. It has to be dirt in the mesh of the speaker. Can I somehow replace the mesh? I work at a mall kiosk where we've repaired too many to count. What I found not sure if it helps but I had the same issue with the crackling noise.

What fixed the issue for us turned out to be the charge port connector. It turned out since it was a new charge flex we replaced since the connector when they're new doesn't have as much give or hasn't been broken in.

What I did was not put the sticky part underneath the flex cable down onto the mobo and simply connect the cable. Voila it all worked no static. Happy customer, hope this helps. Hi Have had the same issue on a 5creplaced screen and top speaker and still the same but on further examination we found a screw had come loose and attached to the magnet on the main speaker causing feedback. I opened the phone and as i pulled up the screen a screw fell out.

I figured out where it went and also cleaned out the speakre mesh while i was at it and now the phone works fine. Mike Ulloa getteck.Released on September 19,this 4. Identifiable by the model numbers A, A, and A Rafik rafik I hope you can help me.

I did replace iPhone 6 Earpiece Speaker but this did not resolve the issue. The screen has not been replaced before. Yes that's right, the sound quality is bad and its like digital voice. Ben benjamen If you are talking about the top earpiece speaker that is used to hear people during calls then it is either badly mounted or faulty.

Replacing it should do the trick if it just suddenly started happening out of nowhere and screen hasn't been replaced before. Fix Your Stuff. Back Answers Index. Rafik rafik88 Rep: 13 2. I hope you can help me ; Thanks in advance.
